Cultured Freshwater Pearls

A coin pearl is nacre grown flat — a wide, mirror-still face that reflects light the way water reflects sky. The Portia strings a full strand of them, each 10–12mm disk selected for the depth of its reflection, into the rare pearl necklace that reads as architecture rather than ornament.

Worn short, the strand sits high on the collarbone, and because each pearl presents a flat face rather than a curve, the light comes back in broad, calm planes — a slower, more deliberate gleam than a round-pearl strand. It carries a crew-neck cashmere sweater or a collarless jacket on its own; against bridal silk it replaces the need for anything else above the waist. This is the piece in your rotation that people ask about.

Cultured freshwater coin baroque pearls, 10–12mm. Clasp, findings, and extender in 925 sterling silver. Short-strand length (just over 15 inches) with sterling extender for an adjustable fit at the collarbone.

Care & Keeping

Pearls follow one rule above all: last on, first off. Finish your perfume, hairspray, and lotion before your jewelry touches skin, and remove it before anything else at day's end. After each wear, pass a soft, lint-free cloth over the pearls to lift skin oils. Keep nacre clear of water, chlorine, and household chemicals, and store each piece separately. Sterling silver revives with a gentle pass of a polishing cloth — kept away from the pearl itself. Never use ultrasonic cleaners or steam; a pearl's structure is organic, and irreplaceable.
